Wings of Valor: Explore Aviation History at the Military Aviation Museum Guide
The Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Home to one of the world's largest private collections of vintage military aircraft, many of which are still airworthy, the museum offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the planes that shaped the course of 20th-century warfare. From World War I biplanes to Cold War jets, the collection spans decades of aviation innovation. Founded by Jerry Yagen, the museum's collection began with a passion for restoring and flying vintage aircraft. The museum's focus is on preserving and showcasing aircraft from the two World Wars, as well as other significant conflicts. Many of the planes have been meticulously restored to their original flying condition, a testament to the dedication and skill of the museum's restoration team. The museum's collection continues to grow, with new acquisitions and restorations constantly underway. Visitors can explore the museum's hangars, each dedicated to a specific era or type of aircraft. See iconic planes like the P-51 Mustang, the Spitfire, and the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Watch restoration work in progress and learn about the challenges of maintaining these historic machines. Take a ride in a vintage aircraft (available for an additional fee) for an unforgettable experience. The museum also hosts airshows and special events throughout the year. While the museum doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, there is a cafe on-site offering a variety of food and beverage options.
